How I work

What do I do as a funeral celebrant?

To begin with, I find out about the person who has died by talking to those who knew them.   I can come to  your home for this if you wish.  We will begin to think about what and who to include in the ceremony, from decorating the space, carrying the coffin, music and readings to include, plus any rituals such as lighting a candle or placing things on the coffin.  I can bring suggestions, but all of these elements will be as you choose.  It is likely that you will have agreed a venue with the Funeral Director, but I can make suggestions about this if that suits.

I will then draft the ceremony and send this to you for you to comment on, and will rewrite until you are happy with it.  On the day of the funeral I will meet you at the venue and conduct the ceremony according to your wishes.

My Approach

A death, particularly if it is abrupt or untimely, can push us to the edge of our feelings and understanding.  In the midst of this, it is really hard to organise a fitting funeral service.  I aim to walk with you whilst the ceremony takes shape, helping you decide what and who to include.  I will make you feel as safe as I can during the preparation and the event itself.

My life experiences lead me to reflect on why being connected with other people matters.  I strive to find ways to honour individuals in both intimate and socially meaningful ways.  Funerals are one of the most important events we can share.
