About me
I am a mother, grandmother, traveller, swimmer and baker.
My partner and I have four grown up children and three small grandchildren. We moved to Oxford from Manchester in 1990 so I could train to be a midwife at Oxford Brookes, and I worked as a midwife in hospital and community settings for ten years. I then worked as a midwifery lecturer first at UWE in Bristol, and latterly at Oxford Brookes until September 2020. I took a career break in 2016 and lived and worked in Malawi, helping to set up a skilled birth attendant training programme. I enjoy walking, reading, theatre and cold water swimming, and believe that I need to maintain a good level of physical and emotional health to be able to be alongside others.
I decided to train as a funeral celebrant because I am drawn to working with people when big things happen, whatever their beliefs and culture. I don’t try to fix things – I can’t - but I can be alongside you whilst you make decisions in planning a funeral service that is as unique as the person who has died.
